C. H. Reeves Jr. High Church Service: 6/9/2007
C. H. REEVES JR. HIGH SCHOOL - BACK TO SCHOOL CHURCH SERVICE
At the beginning of the school year, the C. H. Reeves Junior High School, for the second time returned to the East Street Tabernacle to begin the school year with prayer.
Headed by its Principal, Ms. Paulene Adderley, the fifteen hundred (1,500) students accompanied by members of the Administrative Team, their teachers, support staff and parents assembled at the Church on Thursday 6th September with great anticipation to participate in this Special Service at 10:30 a.m.
“Promoting Excellence in Education Through Teamwork” was the theme chosen for this occasion and addressing this large audience was Bishop Franklin M. Ferguson, Senior Pastor of this Historic Church. Bishop Ferguson encouraged students on how to be excellent in their behaviour, their dress code, their speech and their commitment to God. He highlighted the following five (5) components that will promote teamwork: • Common goal • Unity • Sacrifice • Commitment • Affirmation.
People of colour, he noted, have a bad reputation for pulling down one another rather than promoting each other. No man is an island and we need each other: “You need me and I need you, we’re all a part of God’s body, stand with me agree with me, we’re all a part of God’s body . . .”
Prayers were then offered up for the protection and guidance of staff and students.
Also in attendance were Mr. Willard Barr, Superintendent for Southern District and Mrs. Ida Poitier – President of the Bahamas Union of Teachers (BUT).
